Having lived in Birmingham for three years now, I'm making a conscious effort to start exploring and trying out new finds. One of these was the cult caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay. It can be found on John Bright Street just before the Mailbox, serving (the best) jerk meats, rice 'n' peas and sweet potato fries smothered in a jerk cheese dressing - tempted enough? The place really has their marketing strategy sorted, despite being hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of a busy city, as soon as you walk in you are transported to the tropical world and immersed within their identity and personality.

The restaurant is extremely reasonably priced for a city centre find, with main dishes setting you back around £10. I can quite happily say this is one of the best meals I have eaten out. The slow marinated jerk chicken is full of flavour and just the right amount of spice, and the mango glazes finishes it off perfectly with the subtle sweetness.

Aside from food, the rum cocktails are certainly worth a try too. The fresh fruit combined with the exotic spirit are sure to transport you to a summery day dream to espace the dreary British weather. Catch the 2-4-1 offer on cocktails everyday until 7pm, and all day Saturday.

See the Turtle Bay menu or book a table online.
