Just as we started to experience the warm weather in the UK, with everyone digging out the demin shorts and floral dresses, weather has now returned to the gloomy, overcast dampness. What better way to wrap up warm that to adopt the trend of the big jumper. Its been seen all over the catwalks with the likes of Sportsmax and Max Mara (see above), with the oversized and elongated silhouette emerges as a key shape for knits this spring.

Everywhere you look, knitwear has risen its’ wearable head to show itself as the perfect staple piece this season and I personally couldn’t be any more pleased, in all its convenient glory. Its been interpreted in many fabrications and textures on the high-street like ombre/mohair turtlenecks from ASOS, waffle-knit neon high-low sweaters from Tibi and classically grey rib-knit jumpers from REISS there’s something for everyone to love.

Chunky yarns and brushed textures highlight the cosy nature of the warm garment. Directional styles include floral embellishments, pocket details and patched panels so be key to keep an eye out for these when choosing your cover-up. Over-the-knee lengths and chunky roll-necks are amongst the most popular of styles. Checkout knitwear in the menswear section of shops to achieve that oversized appeal, the length will be longer to allow the garment to be worn as a dress. Take inspiration Max Mara, go sleeveless or layer up with a tailored blazer.

My favorite part about this staple piece is its simple versatility. For a low-key weekend throw one on paired with a pair of denim skinnies (or flares to live up to the 70's trend) pointy toe flats. A chilly summers day is now both appropriate and fashion forward when paired with some black tights, a knee length skirt and some metallic heels.
