The space age is back for next season - well, on Bond Street at least. The latest collection from Louis Vuitton has embraced 70's bohemia and 90's minimalism and is paving the way for an intergalactic aesthetic on the catwalks.
Showcasing a winning combination of their Parisian glamour and sci-fi chic, the new cruise-season collection by designer Nicolas Ghesquière (which was said to be on the brink of breaking Instagram) was shown on Wednesday in a house designed by John Lautner, built for the comedian in 1973.

The collection featured fifty looks, ranging from Star Wars-esque robes to Warrior Princess-style hotpants, with the models parading around the swimming pool outside the house, where there was a giant Perspex speaker towers and palm trees dotted among guests seated with views over the Coachella valley.

Futuristic architecture is one of the standout trends in fashion this spring, with catwalk shows staged in space age landmarks like this. Just lasst week, Chanel put on a K-Pop influenced show in Seoul, at Zaha Hadid’s curvilinear Dongdaemun Design Plaza (see below).

Following on from Vuitton and Chanel, Christian Dior will show in the Palais Bulles near Cannes, a retro-futuristic building consisting of bubble-shaped rooms on the edge of a seaside waterfall - once the summer mansion belonging to the designer Pierre Cardin.
