London-based designers Marques Almeida have won the prestigeous and highly profitable LVMH Prize in Paris yesterday, presented to them by actress Natalie Portman.
Designers Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, famed for their frayed demin pieces, will take home ϵ300,000 whilst recieving a year's worth of technical support, covering itellectual property, sourcing, production and distribution, image and advertising, marketing and more.
The LVMH Prize was launched in 2013 to support young fashion designers, giving them spotlight and a chance to break through. Last year's winner was British designer Thomas Tait.
I first heard of Marques Almeida after thieir collaboration with Topshop last year, and I still see people walking around sporting their frayed shorts and raw polo-shirts from the collection. Hopefully this is a sign of much more to come. Congratualions to Marques and Almeida!
